what next?

basic training is coming to an end...which means there's gonna be a short holiday soon! its a 11 day holiday if i rmb correctly: 10th to 21st inclusive. more jamming sessions...if jem can make it. if not then its more practice and more private lessons :D

anyway, i just realised my tesla single coil isnt as powerful as i expected, sounds abit too fake :( nvm, i shall try it out the next time we jam. if its ok i shall keep it, if not i'm planning to sell off the entire guitar. no more single coils for me next time then. i swear by the humbucker tone XD anyway, my prs is serving me well...nice tone, nice neck profile, good for both rhythm and lead, though its alot nicer for lead cos of the wide and thin neck.

but i still wonder why the pickups in the timbre strat are so powerful even though they arent humbuckers. 3 single coils but still powerful, or is it just the amp? nvm, i think i still prefer humbuckers hehe.

back to civilisation (temporarily)

an update after about 1 month or so in compulsory prison. what can i say? sucks to be me. here i am being paid peanuts to "serve my country" while my friends are having a ball of a time outside. not including the exam stress of cos. then again, its literally void of eye candy. one may pop up once in a very blue moon but thats as far as it goes :(

anyway, i've gone to private guitar lessons instead of staying on in yamaha. the group lesson there is painfully slow and there are too many lessons that i've missed. even if i go one on one session in yamaha, i think it aint gonna be worth it. i'll still miss my lessons once in awhile -.-

and not to forget jamming sessions, they're to be held every week if possible so where am i gonna get so much time to go for both jamming and lesson if it both gonna fall on the same day, which is usually the case since gan usually works on sat. hmm not very feasible right? furthermore, yamaha lesson timing is fixed while private lessons are not. i can go every month or every fortnight. doesn't matter does it? i pay per lesson anyway.

oh well, i'm not supposed to blog about anything i did in prison so i have no interesting stuff to report. so...yea thats about it. done like dinner. oh dear, speaking of which, look at the time! i gotta go have my dinner. chao

reform

ok we're reforming the band. i'm not going to be politically correct here in my blog so here's the reason gan is disbanding.

clement, our drummer is taking this as a leisure break, as something to do when he has spare time. basically for fun. i don't like that, and neither does gan or even wing. we're just sick of him. find me one person who goes to the top just by pure talent and no practice. i cant find one. but clement seems to think its just about talent, with talent one can scale any heights. without talent one cant do anything. i was like WHAT THE FUCK?!

then i tell myself, i think he's still immature, and since doug is his cousin, i'm thinking he will most prob side clement if we just kick him out. so to be on the safe side, we disband and recreate another one. this time we go through auditions, if we cant get along then with the new member then we drop him/her. we got no more time to waste; i'm going in in just 3 days and gan's going in in 3 years. no time dood!!

ok enough bitching and being carried away. nap time :)

My Lady Exiled

ok here's another post for "My Lady Exiled". i just came back from jamming and doug just told me we need a repertoire of 50 songs to make it to pub performance. ok, thats abit hard but it can be done.

anyway i want to talk about our jamming for now. the line up of the songs was "kryptonite", "that thing you do", "always be my baby", and "dani california". clement has improved dramatically since the last time we jammed. that means we can more or less follow the drums and wont be too far off haha. i've got less flops this time round, and i've finally made it to a point where i can hear the bass. it's fun following the bass. the low notes mixed with our guitars' high notes make it a pleasure to listen to what we play.

anyway, i've tried playing kw's bass. its damn good fun haha. her strings are gawd awfull though. they are worn out worse than my tennis strings! well anyway, she's going to change them. but still doesn't change the fact that the bass is still a very interesting instrument to play.

ok so that makes today's jamming a very pleasurable experience for me. oh yes did i mention about the head banging i did during jamming? i think i was the only one so enthusiastic about the head banging thing, so yea they're making fun of me now. but what the hell as long as i have fun who cares haha.

random

i'm fucking bored in the office now, so i think i'll just type some random post out now. i've more or less finished learning all the parts of kryptonite. now it's just left with don't cry. the intro can't be skipped this time, and we're to do it together, so that makes it doubly hard since i really hate chord changes and arpeggios.

anyway, i went back to standard value on saturday. was planning to get new pickups at the neck section or maybe change my humbucker, but in the end mike demonstrated to me that it's actually the amp that makes a difference in the sound. saved me some money there haha. anyway, got my action lowered and i realised something: before the setup, the strings were level but my fretboard isn't, but now after setup, my strings are no more level - each string equal height from the fretboard, not further at the sides and closer at the center. by the way, the strings are damn stiff now, but at least the action is slightly lower.

i also learned from mike how to use the damn tremelo arm that's been sitting in my bag for what seems like ages. i always thought the tremelo was played by turning it, man was i wrong. he pressed it down and viola! the tremelo went down and the sound changed! one prob with using the tremelo is that the strings run loose easily. so i don't think i will be using it anytime soon, but at least i know how to use it now haha.

My Lady Exiled

ok, we've finally gone about forming the band and i think its almost perfect. we're mostly noobs, except for the bassist. she's like a year's worth of experience, and the 2 poor guitarists only have a few months :(

on the other hand, she could guide us. i think. well i'm hoping we can work this thing out. for now, the drummer seems abit hyper when we chat online. not sure if its because of the bassist being a girl that he gets all hyped up or that he was drunk or that he's, as Gan said, only hyper at night. hope it's the latter.

anyway, when we all finally got online for the first time, the floodgates opened with plenty of "hellos". so since clement - our drummer- seemed hyper, we took like forever to get out a name and the first jam details - place, time and songs.

ok, so we managed to come up with this name: My Lady Exile. there were plenty of wing this wing that in the suggestions but at the end we got sick of it cos our bassist is a wing LOL. and yea, our first 2 songs are to be "kryptonite" and "don't cry". the tab for don't cry is extremely hazardous to beginners. then again like someone in soft said, you gotta play something abit out of your league to force an improvement if you think that you're nearing a dead end.

yea btw, i haven't gone about the members of the band yet:

drums and backing vocals: Clement
bass: Kar Wing

ok, i hope this goes well, and i hope we improve fast enough to be playing more hardcore and metal by the end of next year. rock is still slow for me, but it's all i can play for now :D

my guitar craze

ok it's more like an obsession now, just like how i was when i first started tennis. i wonder how long this obsession will last. as i grow older i realise i keep my obsessions for longer periods of time. hopefully that means i am less fickle-minded now and can stick to one goal for a longer period of time.

anyway, when i went to class again yesterday and the teacher had some news for us. not that he was going to choose one, but another student of his asked him if he could find a rhythm guitarist for his band. that surprised me indeed. how is it that he could be looking for a rhythm guitarist for a band from a beginner course? we're mostly noobs! well not sure about the rest but i definitely am one. then again, he assured us that the guy was also from a beginner course. after thinking about it throughout the class, i told him i might want to try out. it could gain me some valuable experience. i remember kenneth tan from the tennis team once told me that synchronizing with a band is not an easy job. if i can get a spot, i would find out soon enough, provided they don't just play covers of course.

now, recently i've been practicing my grade 1 exam piece. it's not as difficult as it looks. the only tricky part is the bend that is not a stand alone. it's in a flow of numbers in the tab. sounds like bending halfway through a shred - a short one of course. not long ago however, i've picked up another cover to play, the riffs have been decent till i reached the solo. made me wish i learned the rhythm part instead of the lead part. the solo is excruciatingly long. and fast. well, no pain no gain. it'll take me some time to perfect this song. i'd expect a month or so. coupled with the theories and pieces that i've to do for homework, it might just take longer haha. ok so i shall not keep you waiting any longer, the piece i'm learning now is "tears don't fall" by bullet for my valentine. yes, you might think me crazy but then again, slow rock songs like "pieces" by sum41 do not appeal to me anymore, so i'm starting with the more simple hardcore pieces. it should propel me further i think. after all, people say that staying in your comfort zone does not make you improve.

1) she speaks cantonese, which i understand little to none of. tell u the truth i think i understand french as much as if not more than i do cantonese. "why" u ask...cos i rarely visit my granny, and when i do, all i do at her place is eat and watch tv.
2) she is in a critical stage of stroke where she has little memory retention. meaning to say she cant remember things well. my mom even said granny cant recognise her. i was like 'she cant even recognise her own daughter?!' so now what makes u think i wanna go there and then not be known to her?
3) u know when people say they dun wanna see their loved ones suffer? i mean it when i say that. not that i'm unfilial or anything but heck i cant do shit even if i go there man, i aint no doctor. i mean, just go there for the sake of goin there? i aint much of a hypocrite lar.

so in the end, i dun see any point in me goin down. if u lump the 3 points together, u get this: she wun recognise me and since i dunno her language, i cant really tell her who i am in relation to her, and if i cant communicate with her and she dun recognise me, then for fuck i go down there and get the "fuck off" from her? makes no meanin rite?! if u still think i have to go down since i'm her grandson, then i have nothin more to say....

the smile

it's about me again.
every time they quarrel like this, it has to be about me. today was no different, to be exact, this morning. at first when i woke up to my mother's nagging, i thought she was nagging at me, so i was like wtf lar, i not even awake yet she wanna start quarreling alr -.-

then i heard my father rebutting, and i knew it. its abt me once again. soon the topic strays from me to their marriage, on y my mom wants to stay in the office longer and so on. deep inside i know its thanks to me. none of this would have happened if i was just more tolerant, less vulgar, and show less attitude.

WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH ME?!?! WHY CANT I FUCKING CHANGE?!

i guess its true wat they say that a leopard nvr changes its spots. i've tried countless times to change, then life gives me one blow and i revert back. guess i aint that strong after all huh. i keep telling myself "c'mon reuel, pick urself up...sulk all u want today, tmr u start afresh" but the sulking part nvr ceases. i sulk one day and the next day i get abit more havoc.

now i just smile, ms delphine lim told me once in what used to be st mike's "u're an attention seeker cos u're the only child" and now here in L&T a colleague told me "u exude the only-child aura" WTF LAR!! so ok now i just smile, hopefully it hides everything.

i've spoken to a few friends who seem rather lively and happy when we're out with our bunch. but when we're talking 1-on-1, it seems they take on a different persona, and all their problems come out. they always manage to conceal it perfectly when they're with the rest of us. wonder how they do it, must learn from them. maybe its cos they aint the only child.

so ok, after this morning's cold war at home, i experimented with the supposedly wonderful thing called the smile. it seems that smiling warms the soul and makes one lighter and ever so slightly more happy. then i just realised, bloggin abt this mornin makes me pissed all over again -.-

haiz...just gotta smile more, dont so emo lol. btw have i told u abt my new colleague? yea its a lady. quite young...i think. of cos i'm judging by the ageing lines on her face. some lines which make up can never hide. so i'm thinking maybe late 20s? okok i know, i'm trying to change topic. i cant help it! i needa get my mood back, i dun wanna be some attention seeker again. dun really like that label :(

wed bdae

so ytd we celebrated wed birthday. didnt get any pics cos my hp got no flash plus the rest of us usually dun take any. didnt really bother to take any also. too busy having fun. anyway, i went to gardens to meet up with liz and wed 1st immed after finding out that the music shop didnt bring in enough amps. then liz and i had to paka so we wun let wed know that mon was comin.

then when we went on to the court, we realised that we needed to pang seh wed awhile while we went to fetch apple and write on the card (well we had to fetch mon as well, and i must say the card was very suitable, it was abt wat beer can do to u LOL). in the end liz brought her bag out with her lar walao -.-

then prepare for the worst...apple came strolling through the carpark and bumped straight into wed!! ultimate WTF. so ok some surprise was lost there. well at least we got mon safely hidden away. =) but it wasnt much of a surprise lar, just that he told wed he couldnt make it then he came down to surprise wed hehe

anyway, after tue won his match against the 13yo, we went over to play bowling, needless to say i got thrashed... my score not even half of theirs lar CHUI!! HAHAHAHA!! now i owe them 1 forfeit -.- i think wed gonna make tue and i each get 1 number when we go zouk nxt month lol

anyway, after dinner at astons, we went over to liquid kitchen to cut the cake. apparently, liz and apple got so excited after seeing a pool table that they had to play one game b4 cutting the cake. but then again, after they played, wed and i went for 1 round. then we wanted to cut the cake alr, but the ppl who played b4 us wanted to play with wed. oh well, we told him gotta cut cake b4 midnite if not bo pakae LOL

erm liz, i'm sure mon didnt know that u cant eat mocha stuff. she ended up not touching her slice of the cake =( oh well, anyway, it was nice. shit, i just realised, i havent pay mon for the cake yet!! oh then again there shud be some change left over from the taxi fare, i think it should be enough lar haha. anyway, when we wanted to leave, the guy who wanted to play with wed changed his mind, he wanted wed to play with mon: if mon win, wed buy him 1 beer, if wed win, he will buy wed 1 beer. in the end, wed won even after he gave mon free ball on the black -.- but ok the guy was a nice guy lar, tue and i think he's quite rich...i think he got the charisma while tue thinks its cos of the way he can just throw money like that.

anyway, i'm having a bad tummy today, gotta finish my report and fuck off....

my goal

i'm oh so close to my goal!! just need a few more days of practice to finally be able to play prob the easiest song in my mp3 on guitar :D the song? heart shaped glasses (when the heart guides the hand) by marilyn manson. i dun think any other song in my mp3 gets any easier than that. and thats prob the only song closest to rock that i have alr hahaha!!

anyway, i think i need to buy an amplifier haha, the guitar still sounds like an acoustic, which isnt the reason y i decided to switch to an electric guitar course :( should i get my amp from peninsular or should i get it from yamaha...guess i have to see the prices 1st huh. either way, a simple amp will do, i aint gonna blast the vol anyway so i dun need such a powerful one, just enough for me to hear and enjoy :D

btw, i just saw darryl play ytd against sp. very interesting match. he was up against an old boy of st pats haha. joshua, also from sp, said he's 23, which means i should have seen him back in my hay days. but then again, back in sec 1 days i wasnt much of a social person. more emo than i am now, just w/o the looks hahahaha.

ANYWAY, back to darryl's match, he fought hard, and they went to a tie break, which of cos darryl won in the end. once again, his was the last match and we were all cheering for him in the end hahaha. but while i must say that the match was quite a thriller, darryl played well with all his topspin shots. he didnt dare to hit whereas the former patrician was basically playing ding dong with more spin and then scurrying around to return the balls darryl threw to the corners. the final score in the end? we won sp 4-1.

i must say the sp fans were more decent than the np fans but then again, its all from hearsay, i didnt experience the np fans, nor do i wanna experience their bitchiness, as my frens call it. so now we won the 2 schools we've faced so far, how much more can the team take? well, tmr will be against meatball's team, i bet they gonna be as bitchy as np if not worse, but then again i dun give a damn, we got quite a few gui lan ppl in our team also, can tahan one lar LOL

nadal won fed and nyp won np...wow

just wat i need to brighten up my tennis life HAHAHA...and i think phelan's still gonna go on abt how darryl won this np guy in a very thrilling classic decider match which ended ard 10pm. i was lke wtf lar!! i shud have gone. i tot np sure win in the end cos ah lim still say they got alot of strong players still. in the end we ended up winning in a very closely fought decider.

and yes wimbledon has seen a new champ! rafael nadal of spain, marloca. also not to forget, the 1st person to win french and wimbledon in the same year since bjorn borg did in 1980 or 1981 cant rmb which XD and also the 1st spaniard to hold the wimbledon trophy in like 70 years LOL.

while many of my frens who were rooting for fed turned sour the next day, i just couldnt seem to stop beaming hahaha. nadal won fed!! wat can be better? and to think fed hasnt won a single slam this year! oh the demise of a champion in his former glory hahahaha!!

recently, the tennis circuit has been extremely dead! there's no big tournaments goin on and the big names are all just goin back to trainin and working out, only the small names are playing some very small and insignificant tournaments haha...oh well on a side note, i just got my new electric guitar...will see if i can get my pics of it up soon :D

my life thus far

ok, for the few months that i've been here in L&T, i've seen on an average of 1 leaver per month. believe it or not. now the company is in short of staff. y? cos we've only hired 2 new staff since then, not to mention, 2 quit my dept but none was posted here -.-

ok so now we're kinda short handed here but we're coping...makes me wonder wat will happen if another person leaves my dept. now the boss knows we're fully capable of surviving with this little staff. we're in deep shit! hahaha but oh well, it doesnt affect me for now, cos i aint doin in bound calls XD

ok so now i'm waitin for my pay cheque...its gonna miserable as usual, but i still end up with savings at the end of the month at least :) the past month has been quite extravagant hmmm, wat with all the clubbin and drinking and slacking ard and cabbing ard :( didnt really save much this time, so i need to save as much as possible this month, hopefully fuji's bdae is the only time i club this month, but the one charlie has on facebook is damn tempting!!! the amount of babes invited is just crazy!! which of cos makes it all the more difficult to resist the temptation :(

that aside, safin's goin on a crazy winning spree this wimbledon, he's made it past the 4th round for the 1st time in god knows when. will he suddenly topple the gaints again as he did during the aussie open only a few years back? cos if he did, it makes him only a frenchie away from becoming only the 6th man to win all the 4 grand slams in the open era.

5th is agassi of cos. he's still playing exhibitions with his wife. last i saw he partnered graf against ivanesevic and cant rmb who...hingis maybe? cant rmb...but at least its for charity, man the guy is something!!

the next story took place only ytd. know wat? it was kar lu's bdae. as a bdae present, i made si ying and her walk like 30min? just to go from my office to funan. (we took the long way cos, yea i kinda forgot how to get there usin the shortcut) well anyway, we were perspiring by the time we reached funan, and needless to say, since they perspired more than me, they were trying to find gaps in my awareness to sneak slaps on my back. unfortunately for them, their hands were kinda small, and in the end, they hurt their hands slapping me. wat losers LOL!! actually we wanted to buy something else for her but due to time constrains, we just decided to buy her a pint of B&J ice cream which we finished there. so much for bdae presents huh...

a decent post

ok finally a decent post, i'm actually typing something down instead of just copying and pasting like i did for the past 2 posts XD

latest report on my addiction to metal:
its getting nowhere good i must say. my bands now include tristania, dream theater, liquid tension experiment, marilyn manson, children of bodom, a7x, dragonforce, sonata arctica, nightwish, X-japan, august burns red, and recently this band called king diamond. as i'm typing this down, i'm also listening to my self-engineered metal playlist. it aint good, fucked me up literally :(

ok i must say i am the 1st to start work after my exams. y am i so confident abt this? lets just say i had less than 24hr of holiday in between my last paper and my 1st step into the office. how stupid of me right? actually no. cos i had to turn up for work asap or i would get the position, or so my cousin-in-law said. oh well, at least the job exposes me to alot of things that i wanna learn that i cant possibly learn in class cos its too complex to teach. stuff like how different companies bend the laws of sgx just to get more customers, how remisiers work, and of cos there's also office politics.

oh, somethin new!! i went for a classical guitar course at yamaha music school. now who would think that a metalhead like me would end up goin to a classical guitar course of all guitar courses. LOL!! everytime i make my way into the room, i get stares from parents and their little kids. they must be thinking "oh boy! what's this emo punk doin in this music school?" well i dun blame them, after all they've no drums or even electric guitar course at thomson plaza branch. oh well, i've recently asked to transfer to the electric guitar course anyway, and its all the way at plaza sing lar walao. crap man!

well, i havent stated yet but i must say that my old time buddy phelan gan has got his 1st gf alr. hahaha congratz, damn shud have taken the bet with u abt who will be the 1st to get a gf hahaha. theni win alr wahahha damn!! oh well, for now i can still play a fool XD but seriously phelan, that ur gf dun allow u to even drink is abit too controlling. or at least for me lar hahaha, i cant stand a month w/o drinking dude!! oh well let me know when the 2 of u come to a consensus or coughbreakupcough, i'll bring u to zouk to cr8 havoc HAHAHAHA! ! !

wats with ibm?

ok...i've been really irritated by my ibm lappy recently. it has done well to last past my last projects and papers. but ya'know wat? right after the last paper, it broke down -.-

luckily for me, the lappy was still under warranty (but it was like abt 2 weeks left). so it got me a free repair job. the day after i got my lappy back, it gave me this blue screen of death...some fucked up ati-driver problem!! ok so maybe i get that once in awhile. so i thought nothing of it, but guess wat? 3 days down the road, i got the same problem when i left the com runnin for more than 4hrs. WTF?! i get that prob once in awhile as in once a year or sumthin liddat, not once in a few days!!

then it started giving me the same prob once a day, and soon it led to everytime i switched on my lappy. made me so fed up i called ibm to try and let off some steam (yeah i know, those poor guys) but as expected, ibm still has the best cust svc i've ever come across in my life.

so i got my com repaired for free again, but i had to get my com totally restored back to factory settings. and then the warranty expired. so now that i got it totally restored to factory settings (i paid $32 for them to reinstall my os) i thought my com is back to normal again. then just 2 days later my com refused to start. FUCK!!! ";...;"

so i called in to make some noise, and as usual b4 i can make any noise, i got wat i wanted, and they sent a delivery man to pick up my com instead of me sending it to the post office as i had in the past. perfect! but i told them this time that i wont tolerate any more nonsense from them. they have been warned that my com has been repaired twice and each time it came back with a diff prob. if it still comes back with another prob, this post may appear in the press O.O?!

ok know wat...my eyes are tired from facing a white screen for so long, so thats the end of this post :D

monday non blues

what a way to start off a monday...

the mornin started much like any other, and i was waiting for the bus again. hey its a new wk ahead of me!

then there was this bus with a stubborn door in front of me. it was a long bus(yes i need the word long in there, u'll know why soon ;) ) and the driver took the pain to get out of the bus, walk to the back cabin and manually shove the door back in.

when the door was close, the bus suddenly grew a life of its own!

it started moving foward, and it was a downward slope so u can imagine...anyway, the bus driver was at the back door, so naturally being a long bus, he had quite alot of runnin to do to catch up with the bus. MAN U SHOULD HAVE SEEN THE LOOK ON HIS FACE!!!! the joke of the year!!

yes, fortunately or unfortunately he couldnt catch it in time. the bus hit a lamp post a few metres ahead and then crashed into a huge tree the next few metres, and then it stopped.

i was laughing too hard to do anything but too bad my bus came ard that time so i had to tapao the rest of my laughter for the office.

final diploma exams

ok...the exams are comin...only a few weeks away, and less than a month. wat now? i cant focus much on my studies now cos i aint gonna retain anything till the exam period, i missed a few tutorial alr and i aint got the answers to them, and i still got a mojor and a minor project to do b4 the study break - which is only 1 day!! ok so i'm screwed, wats new??

on the other hand, i've got friends who have alr started looking for their job outside cos they've already finished their diploma...wtf?!?! no fair!! oh well nvm...anyway the weeks have been boring ard here - rarely play tennis now due to the exams closing in for alot of friends. haiz...

oh well anyway, since the last post was last year, when i just started my sem, i would like to take the time to wish all readers and myself a happy new year as well as gong xi fa cai!! damn...i gotta go all the way to my friend's house to collect the psp tmr grrr...the next post would most prob be after the exams, when i once again got loads of time haha. till then cya...
